![]() ![]() ![]() I heard about 3years ago on the Dell forum that it is recommended to flash the 730x type board with the Alien version(s) I linked you to, to stay current, and the Bios logo will changeover to an alien. XPS could be ordered with a 990x, so it is basically the same board. Replacement board is the 'lime green/purple' 730x. ![]() What's bugging me is if this was an Alienware motherboard, why didn't it already have the Alienware bios on there? Do all bios-es follow the same protocol for flashing such that the American Megatrends bios would not know it was being flashed with another bios type and allow the procedure to go forward successfully? Has anyone ever done a procedure like this going from one bios manufacture to another? I'm just a little nervous about doing this because the board will at least boot up, although the Alien FX-lighting doesn't work on the chassis itself (works on the mouse & keyboard, though). I know if this doesn't go well, I will brick the motherboard. They think I can just flash it with the latest Alienware bios for the ALX. But, the board has an American Megatrends Bios 1.0 on there. The shop that did the work said that it's the exact same motherboard and it does look exactly like my old one component-for-component. I recently had to get my Area 51 ALX motherboard replaced. ![]()
